I first met Dr. Tom in 2012 while I was working in the rebel-controlled Sudan People Liberation Army - North's (SPLA-N) territory of the Nuba Mountain in South Kordofan, Sudan. This year as he continues his work at the hospital Tom has been honored as one of TIME's 100.
